Patient presented with small upper teeth and a narrow upper dental arch and smile. The upper left and right front teeth had previously been damaged through an accident with the upper right central incisor having a composite restoration. As the teeth were small there were spaces in-between them. There was moderate wear at the inside surfaces of upper front teeth which appeared short with broken edges. Lengthening and restoring the teeth to the ideal sizes was not possible due to the existing bite and the lack of space in-between the teeth. There was a curve between the front and the back teeth whereby the front teeth were much higher up than the back teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. This is called the Curve of Spee. The lower back teeth (lower first and second permanent molars) had been worn down and were stored. There was inadequate space between the upper and lower teeth to build them up and reinforce them.Upper and lower fixed braces were used for 9 months to re-organise and correct the bite at the front and the back teeth for the provision of restorations as necessary. Space (known as clearance) was made around the front teeth to be restored to the ideal dimensions in terms of height and width. The Curve of Spee was flattened to improve the bite and provided optimum smile aesthetics. Space was created at the lower back teeth for the provision of restorations to reinforce the weak and broken down teeth and protect them from further wear and damage. The patient was able to smile again with confidence.Acknowledgement: The restorative treatment was done by Dr C.K.
