Young girl presented with a small upper jaw and a protruding lower jaw. The discrepancy in the size between the upper and lower jaws resulted in an incorrect bite at the front and back teeth, whereby the lower front teeth were biting ahead of the upper front teeth. The upper jaw was narrow and this resulted in lack of space for the eruption of the upper right lateral incisor.
The treatment entailed growth modification with a rapid maxillary expansion appliance and face-mask treatment. The bite at the front teeth was corrected and the upper dental arch was widened to accommodate all the permanent teeth. Adequate space was created for the lateral incisor which erupted naturally on its own. The orthodontic treatment will be completed soon with upper and lower fixed braces.
