Patient presented with skeletal disporportion and low jaw asymmetry. The lower jaw asymmetry was exacerbated by a lateral displacement of the lower jaw due to the left side crossbite- functional displacement to the left. Patient had already undergone a long course of invisalign treatment with filing/reduction in between the teeth and the teeth had been extensively prepared and covered with composites to achieve alignment. The main reason patient was seeking treatment was to achieve comfort with her bite as she presented with discomfort on her jaws. Due to the asymmetric wear on her teeth as well as the lower jaw asymmetry, patient presented with asymmetric gingival margins in the upper arch. The initial plan entailed upper and lower jaw surgery to achieve the best possible result in terms of skeletal proportions and bite. As
patient was delighted with the progress of the orthodontic treatment as well as her new comfortable bite, she decided not to pursue jaw surgery. The orthodontic treatment stabilized and improved the bite, intruded the upper front teeth, leveled the gingival margins and created ideal spaces in-between the teeth and vertically to enable composite restorations to restore the teeth to their original natural dimensions prior to patient experiencing tooth wear. Composite restorations were also done on the lower incisors to restore the wear on the teeth. The patient’s facial symmetry was improved through eliminating the functional displacement; as the lower jaw was no longer shifting to the left, patient lower jaw become more centrally positioned.
